Naturopathic medicine is not covered by OHIP, however most extended health care plans do cover the cost of seeing an ND. Call your insurance provider and ask if you have naturopathic and/or acupuncture coverage.
We respect your time and we hope you respect ours. We require 2 business days to cancel your appointment, otherwise full visit fees will apply.
NDs obtain comprehensive and rigorous training in an educational structure similar to that of medical doctors. NDs require four years of post-secondary education including pre-med courses, plus four years of full-time graduate level study at an approved accredited college of Naturopathic Medicine. In Canada, there are only two schools that are accredited- The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, and Boucher Institute.
Upon graduating from either of these colleges, they must complete North American licensing board examinations in order to apply for a license to practice. In Ontario, this is with the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy –Naturopathy.
Unfortunately, the complementary and alternative medicine field is not as closely monitored as it could be. There are many practitioners without adequate education and training, claiming to be natural health care providers. Not all provinces are regulated; fortunately Ontario is! To check to see if your naturopath is registered visit the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy-Naturopathy (BDDT-N) website http://www.boardofnaturopathicmedicine.on.ca/
